Sotogrande será el centro mundial de la Vela en mayo 2016 !

España acoge, en la primavera/verano de 2016, dos de los Campeonatos del Mundo de náutica con mayor relieve del panorama deportivo internacional. Sotogrande se estrenará con la cita mundial de la clase RC44 del 10 al 15 de mayo y al que le seguirá la disputa del mundial de la popular clase J80, desde el 25 de junio al 1 de julio.

LA CITA MÁS IMPORTANTE DE LA HISTORIA DE LA CLASE RC44

La glamurosa clase internacional RC44 ha elegido las aguas mediterráneas de Cádiz para celebrar su máxima cita deportiva. La clase que creara el cinco veces ganador de la America’s Cup Russell Coutts celebra en Sotogrande el décimo aniversario de este Circuito que recorre todo el mundo y la disputa de un título Mundial de gran prestigio.

Tras su paso por España en 2014 la clase RC44 ha vuelto a confiar en Sotogrande para la disputa de la prueba estrella de su calendario: la lucha por el título mundial.

Los RC44 son unidades one-desing de alto rendimiento, que permite a armadores no profesionales competir al máximo nivel y con tripulaciones profesionales de primera línea,

One of the most historic tournaments on The European Tour; Real Club Valderrama, one of the most iconic venues in the world of golf; and Sergio Garcia, one of Spain’s most celebrated golfing sons, will come together to stage the Real Club Valderrama Open
de España, hosted by the 

Sergio Garcia Foundation.

It will be the first time that the legendary Andalucian venue has staged Spain’s national Open, a tournament whose history stretches all the way back to its first playing in Madrid in 1912. Since 1972, it has also been a feature of every season on The European Tour and has seen some of golf’s greatest names get their hands on the trophy.

Amongst those are Major Champions Seve Ballesteros, Sir Nick Faldo, Padraig Harrington, Bernhard Langer, Arnold Palmer and Charl Schwartzel alongside European Number Ones Robert Karlsson and Colin Montgomerie. Four Spaniards, aside from Ballesteros, have also claimed the title since 1972 – Antonio Garrido (1972), Alvaro Quiros (2010), Miguel Angel Jiménez (2014) and Garcia himself in 2002.

Glory days under Sotogrande Sky

The last summer in Sotogrande was particularly glamorous and attractive with many events focused on sports of high level.  Golf, Polo and sailing. But no doubt, Polo is Sotogrande and one of the memorable date was the 44th edition of the Santa Maria Polo Club International tournament. Expectations for the coming months are quite positive and we believe on that this magnificent location in South of Spain is shining again!
